Jean PICART Le DOUX (1902-1982) Tropical flora Carton by Jean Picart Le Doux (1902-1982) Circa 1958 France, Aubusson, Atelier Hamot Bolduc signed by the artist on the back of the tapestry Dim. : 1.50 x 1.97 m. Born in Paris in 1902 and died in Venice in 1982, J. Picart Le Doux was a self-taught painter who began his professional life in bookbinding and publishing. In 1933, he moved into graphic arts and advertising. He met Lurçat in 1939, but produced his first cartoons in 1943. A founding member of the Association des Peintres Cartonniers de Tapisseries (APCT), he created numerous cartoons and obtained commissions from the French state, local authorities and French and foreign companies. He taught at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs - He took part in several international exhibitions and is represented in the collections of several museums, including the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Jean Cassou, Max Damain, Renée Moutard Uldry - 1957 - La Tapisserie Française et les Peintres Cartonniers, p.120).
