Raymundo COLARES (1944-1986) - Lot 23
Raymundo COLARES (1944-1986) Decomposiçāo de um trabalho de Mondrian, 1971 Folding notebook (gibi) Signed, dated, titled, located in pencil on first page 16 x 16 cm Provenance: Former collection of art critic and historian Roberto Pontual (1939-1994) Raymundo Colares (1944-1986), a singular figure of experimental Brazilian art in the 1960s and 1970s, developed a body of work marked by a dialogue between constructive rigor, new figuration and the visual energy of urban and popular culture. Inspired by modernism and the international avant-garde, he explores speed, movement and the fragmentation of space through dynamic compositions that combine geometric rhythms, industrial references and signs of modern everyday life. His work seeks to translate the sensory experience of big cities and the transformations of the gaze in the machine age, combining formal structure and visual expressiveness. He also creates his famous "gibis", interactive book-objects that invite manipulation, one of which features in Roberto Pontual's collection.
