ALAIA - Lot 22
ALAIA XXL houndstooth checked jersey bodysuit in cream and red, front button fastening, Collection Tati 1991 Size M Label and composition label Good condition, damaged buttons Provenance: Madame Farida Khelfa This lot is sold in part for the benefit of the Riace fund. Alaïa × Tati, 1991 - When luxury meets the street - In 1991, Azzedine Alaïa overturned fashion codes by collaborating with Tati, a popular Barbès store known for its pink and white gingham pattern. Taking this inexpensive fabric and turning it into the fabric of a couture collection, Alaïa brought together two opposing worlds: luxury and mass consumption. Inspired by the works of Julian Schnabel, he transforms this motif into an aesthetic and social statement. Sculpted dresses, jackets, corsets and jeans are adorned with gingham, a symbol of democratized luxury. This collection demonstrates Alaïa's conviction that beauty and style depend not on price, but on the designer's eye.
