Paolo PALLUCCO (Born 1950) & Mireille RIVIER (Born 1959) Coffee table, Hero's muscles model, circa 1989 Glass top, grey lacquered steel structure Pallucco edition Size: 36 x 114 x 114 cm A 'Hero's muscles' low table by Paolo Pallucco & Mireille Rivier Paolo Pallucco and Mireille Rivier have had the privilege of owning their own factory, enabling them to design and produce their furniture exactly to their wishes, without the slightest compromise. The Hero's Muscles table is part of the latest collection they designed for the Pallucco company, which they had sold two years earlier. Presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1989, in an exhibition entitled "Death of an Angel", this table remained only briefly in the brand's catalog. Production is estimated at around ten units. Its sophisticated mechanism, which raises and lowers the tabletop, perfectly illustrates Pallucco and Rivier's approach to parodying modernism's absolute quest for functionality. Paolo Pallucco and Mireille Rivier had the privilege of owning their own factory, which allowed them to design and produce their furniture exactly as they wished, without the slightest compromise. The Hero's Muscles table belongs to the last collection they created for the Pallucco company, which they had sold two years earlier. Presented at the 1989 Milan Furniture Fair, in an exhibition titled "Death of an Angel," this table remained in the Pallucco catalog for only a short time. Production is estimated at around ten pieces. Its sophisticated mechanism, allowing the tabletop to rise and fall, perfectly embodies Pallucco and Rivier's approach-playfully mimicking the modernist pursuit of pure functionality.
