Jean MARZELLE (1916 -2005) Still life with bouquet Oil on canvas Signed lower right 100.5 x 73.5 cm Born in Lauzun in 1916, Jean Marzelle developed a passion for painting at an early age, admiring Delacroix at the Musée Fabre before entering the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Influenced by Cézanne, Cubism and the Impressionists, he developed a style combining abstraction and observation of reality. Supported by François Desnoyer and close to painters such as Fougeron and Villon, he began exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne in 1942. Settling near Aix-en-Provence from 1949, he drew his inspiration from the landscapes of the South. In 1955, his painting L'Arbre rouge was acquired by the French state, symbolizing the recognition of his art. An oil on canvas by Jean Marzelle
