After Antoine-Louis BARYE (1795-1875) - Lot 44
After Antoine-Louis BARYE (1795-1875) Bronze group depicting an Arab riding a dromedary Based on an 1874 model by Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875) Resting on a terrace; signed BARYE; reverse with ink number 882/ nx ? Posthumous casting 28.5 cm x 16 cm Dating from around 1874, and probably Barye's last figurative group, Dromadaire monté par un arabe is modeled in a freer style characteristic of the late work of the aged sculptor. Since it appeared shortly before Barye's death, editions during the artist's lifetime were few in number (around 10), and proofs are consequently rare. At the sale of the Atelier, the model was acquired by the foundryman Delafontaine, who subsequently edited the model until around 1905. Comparative bibliography: Poletti & Richarme, Barye: catalog raisonné des sculptures, 2000, no. F19, p. 89 . This lot is presented by Madame Isabelle d'Amécourt (Member SFEP). This lot can be viewed by appointment at our premises at 60 rue La Boétie, 75008 Paris, until Wednesday, June 18 inclusive. It will remain on our premises. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT MUST BE COLLECTED FROM THE OFFICE AT 60 RUE LA BOÉTIE, 75008 PARIS.
