Catherine Le Gal par Naïla de Monbrison
Née au milieu des années 60 elle étudie en France, puis aux Etats-Unis.
Mais à trente cinq ans elle change de cap et décide de se consacrer au bijou.
Elle s'inscrit à lAFEDAP, puis part au Népal travailler chez un orfèvre Newar, caste qui en son
temps fabriquait les bijoux en or pour la noblesse tibétaine.
Rentrée à Paris, elle parfait ses connaissances successivement avec un artisan français de renommée, un orfèvre italien, un joaillier de Jaïpur, un créateur de bijoux contemporains expert
dans la transformation d'objets de récupération.
A ce jour, Catherine a déjà exposé plusieurs fois : en Hollande, à Rome, à San Francisco, à Munich, au musée de Falkenberg en Suède.
Jouer sur les contrastes, travailler les matières, détourner l'usage des matériaux, tel est son univers. L'acier est attaqué, oxydé, avant d'être noirci puis patiné. Il présente ainsi un aspect ni lisse, ni rugueux. L'or qui lui est associé est brossé.
Aujourd'hui Catherine, dans son atelier, travaille sur plusieurs idées à la fois. Elle possède une imagination fertile et se laisse pénétrer par tout ce qui lui plaît.
Elle a son propre style, une vision très personnelle qui donne un ensemble tout à fait lisible,
cohérent et très vivant à ses réalisations.
La galerie Naïla de Monbrison lui consacre plusieurs expositions personnelles en 2015, 2018 et 2020, ainsi que des expositions thématiques avec d'autres artistes, en 2023 "Autour de l'arbre"

Born in the mid-1960s, she studied in France, then in the United States. But at thirty-five, she changed direction and decided to devote herself to jewelry. She enrolled at AFEDAP, then went to Nepal to work with a Newar goldsmith, a caste that in its time made gold jewelry for the Tibetan nobility. Back in Paris, she perfected her knowledge successively with a renowned French artisan, an Italian goldsmith, a jeweler from Jaipur, and a contemporary jewelry designer expert in transforming found objects. To date, Catherine has already exhibited several times: in the Netherlands, in Rome, in San Francisco, in Munich, and at the Falkenberg Museum in Sweden. The Jewelry: Playing with contrasts, working with materials, and repurposing the use of materials that is her universe. Steel is treated, oxidized, then blackened and patinated, giving it a texture that is neither smooth nor rough. The gold associated with it is brushed.
Today, in her workshop, Catherine works on several ideas at once. She has a fertile imagination and allows herself to be inspired by everything that appeals to her.
She has her own style, a very personal vision that gives her work a fully readable, coherent, and very lively overall effect.
