MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA - Lot 319
MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA Trois grandes tentures murales en tissu imprimé avec support en vinyle, années 1990-2000 Three large printed vinyl-backed fabric wall hangings, 1990s-2000s printed with depictions of doors, each approx 210x84cm 82.5x33in, (3) Martin Margiela's interest in doors is not well documented, however their representation is a repeated motif in many of his architectural interventions. For example most of the doors in the Margiela HQ offices on Rue Saint Maur are wallpapered with images of other doors, much like those in the present lot. In a similarly subtle and subversive fashion, when Margiela opened a store in Beverley Hills, Los Angeles, images of doors from the former premises in Paris were printed onto transparent films and hung around the space. While these are not objects of fashion, they nevertheless speak to Margiela's persistent interest in transformation, repetition and reinventing the old. Provenance : Archivio Penelope
