Marie-Thérèse Espelt dite Mithé Espelt

Mithé Espelt was rather a woman in the shadows. A highly talented ceramist, she created a collection of high-quality ceramic objects for about forty years. Since her passing in 2020, her work has been gradually rediscovered by the general public and brought to the forefront. A monograph titled "Mithé Espelt, the discreet luxury of everyday life" has been published by Antoine Candau, shedding light on her work. This title perfectly encapsulates her artistry. Mithé Espelt primarily crafted small objects, including jewelry, mirrors, and boxes, using vibrant and distinctly feminine ceramic colors. Her pieces are rarely signed, often leading to attributions to her contemporaries such as Denise Gatard, François Lembo, or Georges Jouve.

This collection, curated throughout their journey by Emmanuelle and Philippe Harros, showcases the refined, feminine, and delicate universe championed by this passionate couple of beauty collectors.

Emmanuelle and Philippe Harros jointly opened a showroom dedicated to fashion and accessories in 1999. To build their personal and professional collection, the couple extensively visited antique shops and flea markets across Europe in search of rare and, above all, unique objects.

As true aesthetes, Emmanuelle and Philippe Harros began collecting Mithé Espelt's ceramics at a time when her work was not highly sought after. Like a cabinet of curiosities, they accumulated her distinctive creations, which they have decided to share with the public today. The collection mainly consists of mirrors, an object intimately linked to the individual and, therefore, to fashion. This comes as no surprise for a couple passionate about clothing.
