Daniel RIBERZANI (b. 1942), after - Lot 161
Daniel RIBERZANI (b. 1942), after Standing or Writing 9, 1991 Based on a carton by Daniel Riberzani (b. 1942) Tissage Atelier Legoueix, Aubusson, 1996 Edition 1/6, Dim.: 40 x 40 cm - Under Plexiglas: 48.5 x 49 cm For Daniel Riberzani, there is no creative boundary between painting and tapestry, but rather an interaction of practices that complement each other. He is one of the few, if not the only, Aventure Tissée artist in France to practice both media "simultaneously". In this way, these two means of expression are enriched by their respective specificities, informing each other (in the sense of giving form and meaning). Daniel Riberzani once again demonstrates the infinite possibilities of the woven medium, when it is understood and loved. With Riberzani, tapestry is more than ever a familiar, yet mysterious, timeless and serene art form. A few biographical details: - Born in Paris in 1942 - 1959-1961: Ecole des Arts Appliqués, Paris. - In the 60s, he discovered tapestry at Galerie La Demeure. He was also deeply influenced by the strong presence of Lurçat's l'Homme d'Hiroshima weaving. For Riberzani, tapestry seemed the most innovative art form. - By the mid-60s, he was already exhibiting his paintings. - It wasn't until the early 80s, when he stayed in the Creuse region of France, that he really came into contact with tapestry. - 1982: the artist is awarded a state grant to work on a tapestry in Aubusson. - From 1982 to 1988: he works on the Paysages-Evènements series, transcending the serenity of Creuse views into founding myths, primordial landscapes in bold, contemporary colors. - 1989 to 1992: Intimate Paintings series: acrylics on canvas, in which the artist sublimates the banal, the intimate in a "Pop Art" perception of everyday subjects. - 1991: creation of the 160m2 carton La Danse et La Musique, Espace Carpeaux, Courbevoie. It's the 2nd largest carton in the world! - 1993-1994: Painted boards or flexible supports. Weaving of the Grande Raie Bouclée begins at the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins. - 1994-1997: Ecritures: enigmatic signs with multiple meanings that unfold like graffiti, structuring spaces with chromatic flat tints. - Numerous gallery exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Japan and Canada. - French public collections: Mobilier National, Paris / Musée Départemental, Aubusson / Fond National d'Art contemporain (FNAC), Paris / Fond Régional d'Art Contemporain (FRAC), Basse Normandie A tapestry in the style of Daniel Riberzani.
