Gérard Denizeau, 1992, quoted in the exhibition catalog Vingt-cinq ans d'art textile, Angers, 1993 p.102 Bibliography: Tapestry reproduced in exhibition catalogs: - Oiseaux solaires, oiseaux marins", Galerie La Demeure, Paris, 1970 - Marta Pan, André Wogensky, Robert Wogensky", Musée de Lyon, 1974, fig. 19 - Robert Wogensky", Musée départemental de la tapisserie, Aubusson, 1989, p.35 A few biographical details: - Of Polish origin, he was born in Paris on November 16, 1919. - 20 years later, he met Jean Lurçat, whom he joined in the Lot region of France, working with him on numerous cartoons. - Lurçat introduced Wogensky to Denise Majorel (director of the La Demeure gallery, which exhibits works by the great names in contemporary tapestry), who bought his first cartoon in 1945. From then on, he was a member of the "Peintres-Cartonniers de Tapisseries" association. - In 1947, he moved to Aubusson. - Teacher at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Appliqués de Paris from 1956 to 1985 (Mural Art workshop). - In 1960, he met Jean Paulhan, who wrote the preface to one of his catalogs and, the following year, asked him to design his academician's sword. - Since then, he has held a succession of exhibitions and designed for various ministries, universities, prefectures and the French Senate. - 60 years ago, La Demeure gallery organized Robert Wogensky's first monographic exhibition. Today, Galerie Chevalier pays tribute to him in its turn. A tapestry by Robert Wogensky.
