Simon BURET (b. 1980) Sheepskin (portrait of the sky), January 29, 2024 Acrylic, oil stick and ink on paper 42 x 30 cm An acrylic, oil stick and ink by Simon Buret FR "I often look for and like every form to begin with an accident: a fold in the sheet, a mark in the canvas, an unchecked stain of paint, direct my hand until they call for a first graphic decision (like the shape of a character, etc.). Generally speaking, my work uses metaphor to express my invisibility. I try to capture a moment or an emotion and charge it with what surrounds me as it catches me. I like the idea of symbolism in the works, and rarely does an element bring me back to the present time to evoke a subject that occupies me. I also like multiple interpretations of a work, so that the door remains open to the viewer's own interpretation. The colors I use are often "out of the tube": I like the violence and clarity of this idea, of putting what comes out of the factory onto the canvas and taking it to the most intimate level through gesture." UK "I often seek, and enjoy, when any form begins with an accident: a fold in the paper, a mark on the canvas, an uncontrolled paint stain - these guide my hand until they call for an initial graphic decision (like the shape of a figure, etc.). Generally, my work uses metaphor to express my unseen. I try to capture a moment or an emotion and infuse it with what surrounds me at the moment it seizes me. I love the idea of symbolism in artworks, and rarely do I allow an element to bring me back to the present time to address a subject that preoccupies me. I also appreciate the multiple interpretations of a piece - the door must remain open to the viewer's individual reading. The colors I use are often 'straight from the tube': I love the rawness and clarity of this idea, of placing what comes from the factory onto the canvas and bringing it to the most intimate through gesture."
