CHRISTIAN DIOR HAUTE COUTURE BY JOHN GALLIANO - Lot 19
CHRISTIAN DIOR HAUTE COUTURE BY JOHN GALLIANO Tailleur "Princesse Jaisalmer", collection "Mata Hari", Automne/Hiver 1997-98 A 'Princesse Jaisalmer' 'walking' suit, 'Mata Hari' collection Autumn/Winter 1997-98 Look 7, labelled and numbered 29370, 29371, 29372, the fitted 'Bar' jacket of Dormeuil herringbone-weave wool and cashmere tweed, padded hips, Diorflap pockets, single button to fasten, the cuffs trimmed with silver passementerie and edged in Valenciennes lace, matching slim-fitting long skirt with flared hem, both lined in lilac satin, together with a silver guipure 'giraffe' necked bodice/body with wing pointed collar, lined in mauve tulle and a fox fur boa, bust approx 86cm 34in, skirt waist 76cm 30in (4) The show opened with the Raj Princesses phase - dramatic makeup, severe centre-parted hair, maharajah inspired turban like headdresses with coloured aigrettes. Goossens provided the fabulous jewellery - massive palm shaped ear-rings and choker-breastplate necklaces 'shimmering with chain diamanté, crystal or amber set into antique silver, all in a very Edwardian Raj mood' (Dior press release) or tall coiled necklaces reminiscent of Ndebele tribeswomen. The 'Princesses' wore severely tailored tweed suits in lightweight tweeds by Dormeuil and Holland & Sherry. "Its that feeling of espionage like tweeds hiding showy clothes'. (Women's Wear Daily July 1997) Madame Ayoub never wore this ensemble. Provenance : The Mouna Ayoub Collection Images Droits Réservés
