MARTIN MARGIELA - Fall/Winter 1989-1990 (EL GLOBO DISCOTHEQUE) Miniature of a vest made from shards of plates, based on the “El Globo” collection, Fall-Winter 1989-1990 Porcelain shards assembled with metal wires forming the front of a vest, bust of a fashion designer painted white Created by Martin Margiela, circa 2020 Stamped Height: approx. 67 cm - 26.5 in. MINIATURES 2018–2024 “I’ve always been fascinated by questions of scale. Things that are too big or too small excite me. I’ve always cherished the half-size mannequin we received at the Antwerp Academy. I’ve often used it throughout my career to quickly test new ideas. After the exhibition at the Palais Galliera in 2018, I realized I was missing several creations from my fashion period. I didn’t have the courage to recreate them in full size, but thinking of my little mannequin, I began reworking certain ideas in miniature. It quickly became a real pleasure to create these small pieces. They are even more touching than the full-size versions.” Martin Margiela Provenance: Martin Margiela’s personal archives. A miniature of a smashed plate waistcoat, after the “El Globo” collection, Fall-Winter 1989-1990 Porcelain shards held together with metal wires forming the front of a waistcoat, white-painted tailor’s dummy Made by Martin Margiela, Circa 2020 Stamped Height approx.: 67 cm - 26.5 in. MINIATURES 2018–2024 "I was always intrigued by scale. Too big and too small excite me. I always cherished the 50% scaled mannequin we had at the Academy of Antwerp. I often used it during my career to quickly test out new ideas. After the Galliera exhibition in 2018, I realized I was missing several designs from my fashion period. I didn’t have the courage to remake them, but thinking of my tiny mannequin, I started to rework some ideas. It quickly became a real pleasure to make these small creations. They are even more touching than the actual-size versions were." Martin Margiela Provenance: Martin Margiela’s personal archives.
