A gemstone, colored glass and silver pendant, by Marcial Berro
Argentine designer and creator of jewelry, furniture and objects born in La Plata in 1947, he moved to Paris in 1977. After working as an actor, set designer and costume designer for the cinema in Argentina and France, he turned to jewelry design in Paris and New York, where he lived between 1971 and 1977. There, he created pieces for private clients as well as for couturier Giorgio di Sant'Angelo. After moving to Paris, he collaborated with several fashion houses, including Yves Saint Laurent, Chloé, Giudicelli, Jean-Claude de Luca, Hermès and Chanel.
Alongside his jewelry, he also designs goldsmith's and silversmith's pieces, glass objects and furniture. His work is characterized by the use of geometric and organic forms, notably the sphere and the cone, and by compositions combining hard stones, crystal, ebony, gold and silver, creating sophisticated color contrasts imbued with ethnic influences.
The Musée Mandet in Riom devoted a retrospective to him in 1995, and he was also exhibited at the Musée Georges Pompidou in 1992, as well as at the Galerie Pierre Passebon.
Galerie Naïla de Monbrison held several solo exhibitions of his work in 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1998.
