Zoomorphic pendant in 18K (750) gold, Veraguas Culture, Pana - Lot 67
Zoomorphic pendant in 18K (750) gold, Veraguas Culture, Panama/Costa Rica, AD 800-1500 Depicting a frog swallowing a butterfly or snakes Length: 4 cm, gross weight: 30.49 grs. Provenance: Acquired from Olivier Le Corneur, Cordes. After 500 A.D., in Central America, gold supplanted jade as the preferred material for asserting symbols of power. Imposing lost-wax cast pendants, depicting composite zoomorphic figures, masterfully convey the salient features and mythical associations of the animals depicted. On this large pendant, the forces of aquatic and terrestrial spirits combine in balanced opposition. Appraised by Mr. Pierre Mollfulleda, Specialist in Oceanic and African Arts. A zoomorphic pendant in 18K (750) gold- Veraguas culture, Panama/Costa Rica.
