Turtle shell archer's bracelet Papua New Guinea, Melanesia Height: 6.5 cm, total width: 7.7 cm. Provenance: Acquired from Franck Marcelin, Eguilles, 9 rue Jaubert Aix en Provence, on 10.09.2019 Worn on the forearm by the archer, it protected the limb from the friction of the string while affirming a status enhanced by the use of a rare and prestigious material and engraved ornamentation. In the Gulf region, these armbands were part of a set of objects linked to hunting, warfare and trade, with tortoiseshell also constituting an ornamental and valuable material. Appraised by Mr. Pierre Mollfulleda, Specialist in Oceanic and African Arts.
