CHRISTIAN DIOR HAUTE COUTURE BY JOHN GALLIANO Evening coat in scarlet waxed metallic satin, "The Matrix" collection, Fall/Winter 1999-2000 A scarlet waxed metallic satin evening coat, 'The Matrix' collection, Autumn/Winter 1999-2000 Look 14, with detached label, no 32344, the hood with deep Mongolian lamb trimming, entirely lined throughout in scarlet sequins, with crocodile pocket flaps and cuffs, webbing belt which crosses from front to back, sports-style drawstring pull cords with toggles, bust approx 86cm, 34in Literature : Illustrated in: 'The Financial Times magazine, January 2000', Vanessa Friedman interview with Mouna Ayoub. She wears this coat to watch the Spring/Summer 2000 'Clochard' collection Then Mouna rushes home to change for Dior, where, at least to begin with, she is the show. In last season's red satin trench lined in red sequins she stretches herself out on the runway, head thrown back, for photos. Back in her seat, she watches models parade down the catwalk in deconstructed pieces inspired by tramps, old sanatoria and Egon Schiele; newspaper-pieced trousers swallowing the legs; hobo Shetland sweaters slashed to expose the torso; bias-cut straitjackets circling the body in laces. "Genius!" she cries, flushed and glowing. "Brilliant! I'll buy it! If there weren't people like Galliano, we'd all be wearing the same old collection!
