Blanche-Augustine CAMUS (1884-1968) - Lot 160
Blanche-Augustine CAMUS (1884-1968) Two children in the garden, circa 1920 Oil on canvas Signed lower left 50 x 61 cm Blanche-Augustine Camus (1884-1968), a neo-impressionist painter trained at the Académie Julian and the Beaux-Arts, made her mark in a milieu that had long been male-dominated. Settling in Saint-Tropez in 1908, she captured the light of southern France, delicately painting gardens, flowers and Mediterranean landscapes with Divisionist brushstrokes. Her paintings, often centered on bucolic or feminine outdoor scenes, reflect her attachment to gardens and southern nature. The painting on offer, showing two children in a garden, is entirely in keeping with this style. Between 1911 and 1939, she exhibited extensively, winning three medals at the Salon des Artistes Français and becoming a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, confirming the talent of a woman artist worthy of even greater recognition. An oil on canvas by Blanche-Augustine Camus
