CHANEL BY HERVÉ LEGER AND EVA COMPOCASSI Beige tweed skirt suit, probably Autumn-Winter 1983-84 A beige tweed suit, probably Autumn-Winter 1983-84 Boutique labels, size 42, the jacket with swirling gilt 'CC' buttons, patch pockets, padded shoulders, gilt chain-weighted hem, trimmed with braid and cord, bust 96cm 38in; with matching skirt, waist 66cm 26in (2) In the early 1980s rumours swirled that Karl Lagerfeld would be taking over at Chanel - the New York Times wrote "merely a whisper of a Karl Lagerfeld connection was enough to bring out the crowds and the tension."The year preceding him serving as artistic director of the Haute Couture line, his assistants began designing the ready-to-wear collections to anticipate his arrival.
