MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA A trouser ensemble, Spring-Summer 1991 A trouser ensemble, Spring-Summer 1991 Comprising: a pair of trousers with black cotton upper section and navy polyester legs, 'permanent creases' to legs, exposed seams, drawstring waist, blank label, max waist approx 91cm 36in; a prototype cream tulle vest top with inverse darts, exposed seams, zip to left side, blank label and hand-written prototype label, bust 96-122cm, 38-46in; a pair of stretch piqué sleeves with raw edges (4) UK These trousers became a staple in Margiela's early collections. Their 'permanent creases' allowed them to be stored easily and reflected the designers obsession with packaging and careful folding of garments. In the A/W 1990/91 folder of sketches (lot 102) there is a small copy of a newspaper cutting showing an Australian sailor wearing trousers which have matching creases. FR These pants became a staple of Margiela's early collections. Their "permanent pleats" made them easy to store and reflected the designer's obsession with packing and folding garments meticulously. In sketch folder A/H 1990/91 (lot 102), there's a small copy of a newspaper article showing an Australian sailor wearing pants with similar pleats.
