CHARLES FREDERICK WORTH HAUTE COUTURE Rare historicist ball gown, late 1880s A fine and rare historicist ball/ fancy dress gown, late 1880s With gilt stamped waist-stay, 7 Rue de la Paix, Paris, the 16th century doublet-inspired bodice of dark purple cannele silk, four remaining domed silver-thread wrapped buttons, the whole adorned with stripes of metal braid, sage-green silk velvet sleeves, silver braid cuffs, with needlerun lace trim to cuffs and to ruff-like collar, curved points to front and rear hems, the matching purple silk skirt with long trained hem internal bustle tapes, adorned to center front green velvet panel with domed silver thread wrapped buttons and silver braid to match; with over-jerkin of ecru/ivory voided velvet, with curved high stand collar, pronounced raised ribbon bands to the shoulers, open sleeves lined in ecru silk, the whole edged in steel beaded silk braid woven metal braid, part lined in beige silk, tabbedd hem, bust approx 92cm, 36in waist 69cm, 27in (3)
