AZZEDINE ALAIA Black leather skirt and accessories, mid-1980s A black leather skirt and separates, mid 1980s Labelled, the figure-hugging black pencil skirt size FR38, with kite-shaped seamed panel to front, w waist 66cm, 26in; together with a black satin-lycra stretch body; a black silk under-wired bra top; and three leather belts (6) Provenance: The Carina Da Silva collection. Swedish born Carina opened her first boutiques in Stockholm's old town and Gothenburg in the 1960s, before she met her British husband Brian who tempted her to London. He was an investor in Quorum and during the 1970s she assisted him with the three London Quorum boutiques selling Ossie Clark and Alice Pollock. In the late 1970s they returned to Sweden where she opened her renowned 'Plaza' boutique in Stockholm. The interior of the shop was designed by architect to perfectly reflect the cutting-edge fashion being sold there.Carina stocked leading Paris-based designers - Thierry Mugler, Claude Montana, Azzedine Alaia, but also British designer Antony Price, Japanese - Kansai Yamamoto and American- Patrick Kelly. Her Mugler collection is legendary and includes the iconic Buick suit from A/W 1988-89 lot 174.
