A "Infinity" silver necklace, by Regitze Overgaard for George Jensen GEORG JENSEN (1866-1935) Georg Jensen is one of the great names of twentieth-century Danish jewelry. The son of a foundry worker, he received both classical training at the Academy of Fine Arts and practical training as a goldsmith. In addition to his well-developed plastic sense, he combines the skills of a craftsman who knows the potential of the materials he uses. He appreciates silver for its hue and flexibility, and creates new contrasts by combining this metal with fine stones and organic materials such as amber or coral. Influenced by French Art Deco, René Lalique and the British designers of the Arts and Crafts movement, Georg Jensen imposed a unique style that would leave its mark on jewelry. Established in Copenhagen in 1904, his workshop quickly met with success, leading him to open boutiques in Berlin, London, Paris and Barcelona.
