JAMES HUNT (1760-1782) / CREAK & SMITH Gold chatelaine, George III, by James Hunt and gold pocket watch by Creak & Smith The chatelaine consists of four interconnected 18K (750) gold plates, the upper part depicting a music scene, the central panel adorned with a figure holding a cup, all surrounded by scrolled rocaille ornamentation. The chatelaine holds two pendants: a winding key (worn) adorned with an intaglio engraved in a zoned agate depicting a woman's profile and an agate plate adorned with a monogram and a mythological scene, Maitre de James Hunt hallmark, London hallmark, French gold hallmark (eagle head), length: 15 cm.., The pocket watch in 18K gold, with white background, Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, hand-wound movement, fusee barrel, dial and case signed Creak & Smith, London, French gold hallmark (eagle head), the gold case with repoussé decoration of a gallant scene, pocket watch height: 4 cm, total gross weight: 172.90 gs. A George III 18K gold chatelaine, by James Hunt, London 1771 and a 18K gold pocket watch, by Creak & Smith French private collection James Hunt, an 18th-century goldsmith James Hunt was an 18th-century English silversmith who began his apprenticeship with his father, William. His name appears in the Parliamentary Report of 1773 and Heal, who list him as a silversmith on King Street, Cheapside since 1760. Heal also records William Hunt & Son as silversmiths at the Golden Lion, King Street. James Hunt died in 1782. James Hunt was an English goldsmith of the 18th century who began his apprenticeship with his father, William. His name appears in the Parliamentary Report list of 1773 and by Heal as a silversmith on King Street, Cheapside, since 1760. Heal also records William Hunt & Son as goldsmiths at the Golden Lion, King Street. James Hunt passed away in 1782.
