Vibeke Tandberg is a Norwegian artist working with photography and video. Her works sparkle between the quest for personal and social identity. In Tandberg's images, the idea of "role-playing" constantly evolves: from identification with archetypes, it becomes hybridization, via cloning, to the experience of playing the role of being oneself. The seven portraits of the hybrid character that make up the Dad series (2000) were created from a fusion of the artist's physique and that of her father. Tandberg's body has not been manipulated, but she wears her father's clothes: grey men's pants and a sky-blue shirt, obviously too big for her; her hair is dyed. Using photographs taken in her parents' bedroom, the artist digitally adds characteristic elements of her father to her face: wrinkles, yellowed teeth, whitened eyebrows, dark-rimmed eyes.
