JEAN LOMBARD (1912-1988) Object-sculpture in amethyst, chrysoberyls, rubies, emeralds, diamonds and gold, by Jean Lombard Made of an amethyst geode surmounted by an 18K (750) gold salamander set with oval and pear-shaped chrysoberyls, cabochon rubies, cabochon emeralds for the eyes and small round brilliant-cut diamonds on the head, and adorned on the sides with gold foliate motifs set with chrysoberyls and small cabochon rubies, signed on the reverse Lombard pour Jean Lombard Genève, gross weight: 2030grs, height: 14 cm, width 13 cm. A collector of antique jewelry and objets d'art, he drew his inspiration from the Renaissance and the 18th century, which were prosperous periods for the decorative arts. He created elegant jewelry and embarked on the creation of highly refined decorative objects, such as this astonishing sculpture in gold, amethyst, chrysoberyl and ruby depicting a salamander on a rock. After the Second World War, he began a fruitful collaboration with Carl Théodor Fabergé, the grandson of Peter Carl Fabergé.
