JEAN-PAUL GAULTIER
Rare set from the "Russian Constructivism" Collection, Fall-Winter, 1986-87, comprising: sweater with flocked letters to chest, velvet and sequinned panel insertions, un-labelled, bust approx 81-92cm, 32-36in; the tartan wool skirt with elasticated waist, Gibo labelled, waist approx 66-76cm, 26-30in (2) A rare Jean Paul Gaultier 'Constructivist' Russian collection ensemble, Autumn-Winter, 1986-87, Lisa Bonet is photographed by Francesco Scavullo wearing an identical jumper (or possibly the dress version) in the September 1986 issue of Harper's Bazaar. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the dress version within their collection, accession number 2013.584. For this collection, Gaultier harnesses the power of revolutionary Soviet graphics and symbols and experiments by artists like Rodchencko who sought to find a form of non-status dress for the proletariat. Gaultier himself considers this one of his most important collections and re-created this ensemble for his 30th Anniversary collection, Spring-Summer 2007.
