With little experience and no formal training, they pursued their shared dream of becoming sculptors and launched their jewelry line in the late 1960s. They created bold and imaginative gold pieces to achieve their unique style that embodies primitive shapes and patterns. Each "Jean Mahie" piece is actually a tiny sculpture, entirely handcrafted in 22K gold. Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier took an early interest in their work and sold their pieces at retail in the early 1970s. In 1971, they entered into an agreement with Neiman Marcus. They developed a successful partnership in both the United States and Europe.
