Paco RABANNE
A Paco Rabanne chain linked armour-plated dress, 1967-68 A Paco Rabanne chain linked armour-plated dress, 1967-68, with printed black metal tag to the interior, the square plates to the bodice adorned with metal studs, rectangular plates to the skirt, bust 81cm, 32in Provenance : Provenance: Rosemarie Eitel, also known as Katzen-Rosie (Cat-Rosy) or Schlagzeug-Rosie ( Drummer-Rosie ). Rosemarie purchased the dress during the 1960s in Germany. She was the drummer for the Hazy Osterwald-Band from 1982, ( when the former Drummer left the Band ), and also for the band Europop 6 ( 1972- 1982 ). Her last performance was at 2003 at the Theater-Ball in Berlin at the Funkturm. This is arguably the most iconic and recognizable of designs by Paco Rabanne, with its futuristic looks, metal construction, it was redolent of the cool 'modern' 1960s minimal approach to design at a time when the world was fascinated by space exploration having put a man on the moon. A model is photographed wearing an identical dress (the skirt shorter by one row of metal plates) in January, 1968, the photo probably taken in Germany. Interestingly, the original owner of this example is also German. The African American supermodel Donyale Luna was memorably photographed by Richard Avedon for American Vogue, December 1966, wearing a similar dress. Condition : good
